1 Year Old!

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Aidan turned 1 year old today!  He now weighs 22.7 lb (50th percentile) and is 30.5 inches long (75th percentile).  His head comes in at 49 centimeters (off the chart - even his pediatrician had to check twice).

(yes, that’s a piece of banana on his face - he didn’t mind…)

Doljabee

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

During the Doljabee event, the birthday child goes around the table and picks up items that attract him. The child’s future is predicted according to the what he grabs. After placing the child in front of the table, the child’s father becomes the guide for the child to go around the table and grab whatever he wants. The first and second items the child grabs are considered the most important. We had the following items:
- money (representing wealth)
- book, writing brush, and ink stone (all representing scholarship)
- rice (representing prosperity)
- computer mouse (not traditional but perhaps representing nerdiness? ;))

In this video, you can see that Aidan picks up the book first then the ink stone second. Apparently, this means he will be very smart. Crossing our fingers!

First Birthday Party!

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Since Aidan turns one on Monday, we had a birthday party for him on Saturday.

Practice Run

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

In preparation for his first birthday party, Aidan tried on his Dol Bok (traditional Korean outfit specifically made for a child’s first birthday)…

Also practiced sitting on his chair…

This shirt’s too small for my big head!
